1) In What ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

When we first started planning the idea for our video, there was a vague image in our heads of what it would look like. Whilst researching, we found this video below.

When we first watched this video, we knew that we wanted to create something similar to this, but improve on it's weaker points.
Some of the shots in this aren't as strong as they could be. From this video, as well as being inspired we also learnt what works and what doesn't. For instance, the use of the out of focus slowly focusing, while establishing location, we felt that worked well, but the other uses of out of focus didn't work so well.

From this video is where the idea of amplifying some of the lyrics, such as "I feel like walking the world".
And from the original video, "she holds you captivated in her palm". We wanted to emulate the amplification from these videos but have our own take on them.
Also from this video is where the inspiration for our location came from. Though we didn't film in Washington DC, we did film in central London; a place that is instantly recognised by its world famous landmarks and they make frequent appearances throughout the video.

We were also inspired by the general upbeat tone of the remake and the original video. The natural lighting in the video helped us achieve this, along with playing in the leaves and the dancing.

We have used and developed a lot of the ideas from the remake video by watching this video and ours, it is clear that we have been influenced by the video.

The genre that the original artist, KT Tunstall has been labelled as is indie pop. We felt that this label was too broad and didn't really fit the style of music. Thus, we came up with the "BBC pop" genre name. The genre is still has all the same conventions of indie pop but artists in the indie pop genre would be featured in magazines such as NME as it appeals to that audience however, with KT Tunstall, we felt that the readers of NME wouldn't listen to her as her sound is very mainstream. BBC pop is a label of genre that would actually exist if the BBC produced music. Such as Disney find "child stars" and have them produce music, it is widely known as disney music.
BBC pop is suitable for all ages; carries connotations of being bright, colourful, fresh, happy and suitable for radio play and having very very little to no profanities.

As this genre doesn't actually exist in common terminology, but follows the same conventions of the indie pop genre we mostly followed the conventions of indie pop.
In many pop music videos were women are the artists making the music, the women wear little clothes and are heavily made up, such as in the Katy Perry California Girls music video. In this video she is wearing revealing clothes and is dressed up like a piece of candy insinuating that she is good enough to eat. From this video alone, it would seem as if Katy Perry doesn't write her own music as it is very produced and the lyrics don't seem to really have any meaning. It would seem as if the record company helped write this song so that they could market Katy Perry as being from California, a place where they have a lot of fun.

On the other end of the scale, we have Kate Nash with Mouthwash. In this song and video, it is clear that she at least plays the music herself and the lyrics really suggest that she wrote it herself as it is about herself and her physical appearance.
In the video, we see her wearing a pretty dress with sleeves while sometimes wearing dresses are considered to be worn for special occasions, it is clear that she is wearing the dress as it's the type of thing she wears on a regular basis, it is her smart casual.
In our video, the artist wore casual colour co-ordinated clothes. For the majority of the video she wore a lot of blue, and while playing guitar, she wore a vintage looking jumper, jeans and the same plain white converse as she did before.

Other factors that follow the conventions of the genre are the upbeat feel/feel-good-ness of the video. This was achieved by showing the artist to be fun and playful in natural surroundings such as when playing in the leaves. By doing this, it breaks down the barrier between the artist and the audience. It makes the audience feel closer to the artist.
By featuring so much nature and raw it gave the video a fresh and natural feel that filming infront of a green screen is mostly, incapable of doing.

We followed the conventions of editing we edited to the beat had we have done other wise, it would've looked off and changed the whole tone of the video.

We followed a lot of conventions, however, we challenged the convention of (representation/ethnicity). Songs like this are generally played by white middle class women in their mid 20's instead of a mixed race teenager. By having a mixed race teenager sing this is breaks the stereotype as in society today, mixed race teenagers are often stereotyped to singing R'n'B by artists such as Rihanna and Nicki Minaj

2) How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

I think that the digipak and the advert work very well together. They feature the same photo of the artist with the same nebula background running throughout both of them. They also feature the same font and font colour. Although on the advert there are three other shades of purple, it is clear that the main colour is purple.

I feel that the audience would definitely be able to recognise the advert and the digipak as linked products because of the features that are the same.
As this advert is an advert for the whole album, not just the single, there is little reference to the single but there is a direct link between the advert and the album. On the inside of the digipak there is a photo of a clip from the video (below)

Also, the artist is heavily featured in all three products wearing the same or similar clothes.
After watching the video and then seeing an advert on the way to hmv, it would be clear that it’s the same person as they are wearing the same sort of clothes and the trademark bandana that she wore in every single shot she was in apart from one.  Then once inside of hmv and looking for any other album and then happen to come across the same one the audience member would remember the face from the advert and the same text and colour and then they would think back to the video where they saw that same distinguishing bandana.

I that the target audience would be attracted to these products because it follows a lot of the main conventions such as the upbeat feel of the video and also because it shows the artist playing her own music and not dressing down for media attention which for many women especially is an important thing that other women don’t have to flaunt their sexuality to get noticed. Also, I feel that by breaking the ethnicity convention it widens the target audience as young mixed race and black teenagers would become interested in this as it

3) How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

Throughout this project we've used many many different forms of media to research, plan and to produce the three projects.

We did our research using such sites a google and wikipeida. We used google to search for artists in the same genre as ours and then on to wikipedia to read about them and their songs. Possibly after reading about them we would go onto youtube to watch a video by them. We searched videos in youtube by genre and certain artists that we knew were in the same genre or had really interesting videos.
For instance, we had an idea for having something in stop motion, so we searched stop motion and this video Her Morning Elegance by Oren Lavie came up.
Below are some screen caps from my favourite parts of the video.

After being inspired by the creativity of the video we followed the recommendations on the side that lead us to more stop motion videos, music videos and non. Watching these videos made us realise that it would be very difficult to produce something of that stature for A2 media students who have little to no experience producing a video in stop motion would be very difficult for it to be done well and look good.

From watching the videos on youtube, we learnt about the conventions of the genre and by watching videos by other bands and artists, we learnt about what you typically see in music videos. We watched videos from all different genres from all over to help us gather a range of ideas for our own video.
Youtube has been very helpful to our project as without youtube, we would have very little information about other bands and artists in the same genre and their music videos.

Using the internet is a very quick and almost always reliable way of gathering information in lots of interesting media formats. Searching anything in google millions of results on the topic searched in seconds which leaves us to take our pick from anyone of these sites to gather information from as each different site would have different information, more or less information on the topic we need, if there wasn't enough or not what we were looking for we would simply move on to another website.
Above is a photo of a search in youtube for KT Tunstall. Youtube is easy to navigate around and shows you thumbnails from the videos. As well as having videos under the same thing you've searched for, to the right there are featured videos, which are videos are primarily populated with videos from YouTube's thousands of partners, but might also include select user videos that are currently popular or that they have previously showcased in Spotlight Videos

We used other websites such as wikipedia and artist websites to help us gather ideas for that we wanted to do use in our video. We watched a lot of videos by other artists in our genre and other genres so that we would know what the "norm" in music videos is and also to see what works well and what doesn't.
We would search for an artist in google and the first few pages that would come up, depending on the artist would be, the artist page and the wikipedia page.
Below is a search in wikipedia of Katy Perry as an example page for other artist pages.
Once searched an artist in google their wikipedia page will probably come up. Alternatively, you can search in wikipedia for the artist on the wikipedia home page.

The wikipedia page allows you to see the artists profile (right) which includes their date of birth, the genre their music is in, their years active, and the record labels they are on.
The contents box was the most useful part of the entire wikipedia page every time. It is where you can directly go to a certain thing that you want to see, for instance the one that I often used was discography which then leads us onto different albums and songs that the artist has released which then we would go and search the video in youtube to see what the song was like, and the video.
We used blogger to blog about our planning, research and even this evaluation that you are reading right now.
This is the header of when editing and creating a blog post.
Through blogger we are able to upload photos, videos, post videos and create links in the post.
In blogger we can also change the font, size of the text, text colour, highlight things and     change the alignment of the text.
Furthermore we can use:
  • bullet points
  1. numbered bullet points

and indents
While making the music video, we used brand new HD JVC GY100U cameras.
We also used tripods to get a straight shot and to keep the camera steady. Before we could begin filming for our actual music video we
Along with using these, we used 16GB fujifilm SD cards that would hold all the footage we captured we had two incase we ran out of space on one and we could use the other to film.

During filming, we used my Canon 550D camera and 8GB HD SanDisk memory card to take photos.
We used this as the cameras provided by college were not as high quality as my own so I brought mine in so that we could take pictures while filming.
Once we had finished film the music video we used final cut pro to edit everything together. Before we had even began filming and planning for our music video, we shot and filmed a short music video for the song He's the Greatest Dancer by Sister Sledge (below)
In this exercise, we learnt how to sync the song to the video.
It is done by while filming the person lip syncing, singing along with a playing track of the song. This makes it easier when editing instead of having to watch the lips to mark a word. Both the track and the audio of the video were marked to a single word in the song this made it easier so we wouldn't have to do it for every base track as we had many.
In our video, we used time lapse this is done by changing the speed of the selected clip. We made the clip faster, first we tried 2000% and it worked very well but it lagged very badly after that we tried lower percentages to get the one we used in the video without it lagging at all.

To produce the digipak and advert, I downloaded a trail of photoshop CS5 so that I could become more familiar with photoshop learn to use it better also so that I could work from home.
Because I was a complete novice at using photoshop, I resorted to using the internet to show me how to do things; Such as I had forgotten from last year how to merge a photo with another. I google searched and I found such sites as this which helped me and from sites like those, I was able to have a nebula background.

    4) What have you learnt from your audience feedback?

Above is a video of the audience feedback.
I conducted some interviews and some people said that the mise en scene in montage of faces could be improved as it's tonally different to the entire video. As in the rest of the video, everything surrounding the artists is bright, colourful and natural in the background in the montage, it's just plain white and that sets that part of the video apart from everything else.
The members of the audience that I interviewed also picked up on the fact that at the beginning of music video, you can see down the artists top and even if it is for only a second or two, it is inappropriate. They also picked up on the out of syncness of some of the parts in the video.

From this audience feedback, I have learnt that more care needs to be taken when reviewing what's in sync and what's not, also, that however nice some shots are, the mise en scene maybe perhaps be too plain when in relation to the rest of the video. I've also learnt that some shots and angles just don't work and are inappropriate. I personally, didn't realise this until it was too late.

The people that I interviewed were all media students or all studied media, and these people were apart of the forced audience. When making this music video, we knew that they would be watching this, however they are not the target audience.
For example Jasmine in the video above likes to listen to K-pop she is most certainly not in our target audience.
Members of our target audience would perhaps find other things that could be improved on and wouldn't comment on others as they wouldn't notice them for instance, I highly doubt that a member of our target audience would comment on shots we've used.

    Question 1
In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

KT Tunstall has two music videos for her song 'suddenly I see'.

In her 'Larger than life' version of her video, it is very animated and colourful. She is literally larger than life. The heavy use of animation in the video creates some very dynamic shots, for example some where she is floating, sitting on a tree and walking down the centre of a street towering over the buildings.

    'Larger Than Life' Version

But in her official music video instead of the heavy use of animation and bright colours there is a more natural feel. There is some clever camerawork to make it look like there are two different versions of her singing the same song across from each other. There are a lot more close ups and there are less cuts than in the 'Larger than life ' version of her video. I liked this version because of its relaxed feel although it was evident that there was a lot of complexity in the way it was shot to be able to get the two versions of her from different angles. The relaxed feel was also conveyed across because of the spaced out cuts there were. I took note of this to use in our own video.

    Official Video

Below is a remake version of KT Tunstall's song. The video taught me a lot about what not to do when making a music video. For example to always make sure the camera is focused and try not to refocus on a subject when filming unless absolutely necessary. Also it is very important not to use zoom when filming because it makes the final video itself not look very professional.

I made sure not to include these aspects in the camerawork of our video.

    Remake

These three videos influenced me when creating our version of the video. For example the use of a guitar is evident in both of KT Tunstall's original videos so it was an important prop to have in our video. It also helped to define the kind of artist we were trying to portray which was a girl who lived in the urban world but had a relaxed personality and was playful and charming.

     Official Video
    'Larger Than Life' Version
    Our Video

I also took note of how both of KT Tunstall's original videos were shot. I preferred how the original version was simple but yet engaging because of the complexity of the type of shots used and especially by the fact that they shot it in such a way that there were two versions of her. In her 'larger than life' version I liked how they used the bright colours to catch the audiences' imagination. I wanted our video to incorporate some aspects from both of these videos, simplicity in terms of the types of shots used, a contrast between fast and slow cuts and with dynamic views and locations with bright contrasting colours.

In one particular shot in KT Tunstall's 'larger than life' video there was a shot where she was walking down the middle of an animated street and she is taller than the buildings and cars around her. I took note of this because it amplifies the lyrics of the song so in our version of the song I decided it would be good if we had Hannah our artist sitting on the wall alongside the Thames river with the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben in the distance. I also positioned the camera in such a way that her torso was the same height as Big Ben which gave the feeling that the city had been brought down to her level. It made it look like she was in charge as often the city can feel very intimidating and big but by this shot we eliminated that. This also helped to create a relaxed feel because the camera angle is not looking down nor looking up so there is no feeling of a contrast in power. For example if it was a point of view shot from Hannah looking up at a building it would create the feeling that she is very small and the same would happen if the camera was positioned in such a way that it was looking down on Hannah.

    'Larger Than Life' Version

    Our Video

    Voiceover

We kept to the conventions of the style of the song by making sure the video had a natural feel to it. We shot the footage in locations many people experience daily and had iconic landmarks such as Big Ben and the London Eye which again is what many people see on a daily basis. It isn't overly elaborate like a hip-hop video with flash cars and big houses as this would be inappropriate for our genre. In the video we also edited to the beat of the song. We also kept to the type of song which was playful and happy and we conveyed that especially through the shot of her playing in the leaves. It amplifies the relaxed feeling of the video and of the song itself which is what the song is ultimately the kind of feeling the song is suppose to impose.

We also broke some conventions in our music video for example the fact that Hannah Marie our artist is an 18 year old black female singing this particular genre of music is not at all typical. Normally you would expect perhaps a white female in her 20s to be singing it instead.

    Digipak

In my digipak I conformed to many of the conventions expected from a digipak. For example on the front cover I made sure to include the name of the artist 'Hannah Marie' and the album name 'Self-Titled' in a clear, readable but distinctive font. I also made sure to include a picture of Hannah Marie so that she can be identified as the artist. You see this in many digipaks especially those where the artist is not that well known. On the back I made sure to include the song listings including the main song 'Suddenly I see'. I broke the conventions slightly here by making the font of 'Suddenly I see' larger than the others. You do not see this often in digipaks but I felt that it emphasised her debut song and the main song she is trying to promote. I also inserted EMI's icon, the copyright symbol, barcode and tproduction information, these key features are in every album. In the spine of the digipak I again put Hannah Marie's name and the album name. This again is common in many digipaks because it allows the consumer to still identify what album it is and by what artist when they store it in a CD rack in their home or even when it is being stored at the store. Finally for the CD art I again conformed to conventions by including the album name again and a picture of Hannah Marie. This allows the CD to be identified as Hannah Marie's Self-Titled album without actually needing the digipak itself.

I stuck to the conventions of music album conventions by having the picture I used on the front cover of my digipak as the picture in the A4 sized advertisement. This allows a consumer who sees the advert to easily identify the related album in a store when they choose to buy it. I also included EMI's symbol as this is important to identify what record label was associated with the artist as with any large organisation some companies have got higher reputations for good products than others and this is especially so for EMI as they are one of the big players in the music industry. I also included the sentences 'Brand New Album Out Now!' and 'Available at the iTunes Store for just £4, only for a limited time!'. This again conforms to conventions as most new albums are available on the iTunes store, also the iTunes icon is important because they only have to see that ticon and they will know instantly that the album is available at the iTunes store without even having to read the text. The 'Brand New Album out Now!' also literally states what the advert is saying.

    Question 2
How effective is the combination of your main product (video) and ancillary texts (digipak and advertisement)?

I think that my music video, advertisement and digipak work effectively as one unit because they all incorporate the same colour scheme and elements of mise en scene. For example the reds of her bandana and the greens and blues of her clothing that she is wearing.

I choose to use this particular picture of Hannah holding the pink guitar not only because of the space on either side of her to add the titles but also because of the fact she has a guitar with her. This is an important prop that is also in our video. Although it is a different guitar in the digipak it is still an important link because by having the iconic symbol that a guitar is it gives the impression of how important music is to her and the role it plays in her life. The acoustic guitar is also a typical convention that you would expect in a alternative rock genre or soft rock. It also conveys the image that hannah Marie is the creator of her music, not just the presenter of a song. It shows her as a true artist of music.

    Screen shot of Music Video

    Front Cover of Digipak

Another important piece of costume is her red bandana that is in every picture of her in the digipak and also throughout the music video. This detail is unique to her and eventually the audience will begin to link Hannah Marie the artist to the red bandana and vice versa. It is an important part of her character like the two different guitars audiences will be able to link them to Hannah Marie.

     Back Cover of Digipak

    Screen shot of Music Video

On the first interior panel I had a close up of Hannah's face. I took inspiration of this from the front panel of Seal's digipak below. I feel that this is effective because it gets the audience up close and personal with Hannah Marie, it is a vibrant image with distinctive colours.

     Interior Panel One of Digipak

Picture from the artist Seal's Digipak

    Interior Panel Two of Digipak

    Final Digipak

I think the digipak is successful in portraying who Hannah Marie is and her character. She is in every panel from the long shot of the cover to the close up of the first interior panel. Also like the video they are relatively simple in style but still attractive. From the outside the audience would see a mainly black and white cover but when they open it up there is full on colour. This is kind of like the expression "Don't judge a book by its cover" and I feel that this is an important aspect of our artist because of the fact that you never find an 18 year old black female singing this kind of music.  It is almost as if she is saying not to judge her visually but to understand her from her music.

I feel that my advertisement is also strong because of the fact that it uses the front cover of my digipak so audiences who see the advertisement will be able to identify the album itself immediately when they are looking for it in a store. I have also made the key words larger than the other words for example the 'Brand New Album Out Now!' and the 'iTunes Store', '£4' and 'Limited Time!' while the rest of the sentence is in a smaller font.

    Question 3
How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

    Slide Show

    Individual Slides

    Digital Storyboard

    Question 4
What have you learned from your audience feedback?

Audience feedback after the cinema viewing.

In the cinema the audience seemed to react quite positively to our video. We received a whole host of positive and comments about what was good and also on what we could improve. For example some for example some of the positive responses were that:
    • It was edited to the beat well.
    • There was good amplification of the lyrics through the video.
    • There was a wide variety of shots and effective camera movements and framing.
    • Mise en Scene was good.
    • Matches the genre. Especially the guitar.
    • Time lapse was nice.
Some other comments about what could have been improved included:
    • The lighting could have been improved between different shots.
    • Costume was also said needed improvement because it seemed too relaxed.
    • I personally feel that maybe the editing could have been slightly sharper with a few more faster cuts.
From this comment about the lighting I learned that it was important to make sure the lighting between each different shot and between cuts matched. If I could reshoot our video again I would double check each time that the lighting matches the previous and next shot. I realise now that the lighting is a very important aspect of the footage because when it is cut and put together with other clips, if the lighting is different it will make the cuts between two different shots more obvious when in reality they must look and feel natural to a point where the audience doesn't notice them.

We as a group also made a concious decision about what kind of costume we wanted Hannah wear. We wanted her to portray a relaxed feel and that she wasn't dressing up. She is simply herself and that is all. However from the comment about it being too relaxed I see now that maybe we should have made what she wore more definitive. I feel that the red bandana she wore should not change because that is unique to her, but probably we would have to apply that concept to the rest of her costume to the point where an audience member can recognise Hannah Marie by her items of clothing like they can with the red bandana.

One aspect that was not mentioned a lot was editing. From this and my personal view I feel that maybe it could have been improved slightly. If it could be re-edited I would ensure that they would be a lot sharper. For example it would be important to try and not interrupt the artist singing a verse with a cut to another shot because it feels rather awkward. I would also make the cuts in some areas more rapid then they were because I felt that some parts were maybe not keeping up with the beat enough.

    Evaluation

Question 1 - In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Our video was conventional to its genre as it followed some of the norms and conventions of other videos in its genre. One video which influenced me was the remake of the KT Tunstall video. Although this video wasn't perfect it followed the conventions. There was some good scenery shots which did inspire us as we felt it would go well with the song and genre. The camera work and location also inspired me. These involved close ups of the artist and the inner city location of this video worked well with the song.

The video showed me plenty of things which I shouldn't do. The shots were extremely slow paced and I felt that a song like this would be better suited to faster paced shots.

                                                                          INFLUENCE

        VOICE OVER EXPLANATION

Because of the genre and in particular style of the song, I felt that there was no option but to follow the conventions, rather than challenge them. I considered challenging them by following methods used by very mainstream artists. For example, using the green screen and a set much more or putting plenty of make up on the artist. However, I felt this would not have worked with this artist and the conventions of this particular genre.

Other ways in which I followed the conventions, was to include the guitar in the video and digipack. This prop is definitely conventional to this genre and by including it in the video and digipack, it makes them look more professional. The nature shots, for example the leaves, grass and scenery shots worked well with the artist and her earthy personality.

I also did challenge the conventions of the 'pop' genre by not including so much editing and special effects. This is because it would not have been well suited to the artist or the song itself so editing was done but kept to a minimum.

I decided to use the conventions of the 'BBC Pop' genre when creating the digipack. I made the writing clear and bold for the audience to see. There is nothing extravagant as I felt over editing and adding too many effects would challenge the conventions and look unprofessional. The image on the front cover has been touched up in photoshop to keep her skin clear and photogenic.  The back includes the logo of the record company, the barcode, website of the artist, website of record label and the information on copyright and distribution.

For the advert I followed the conventions by adding the copyright and record label logo's. After studying some other artists' adverts, I noticed most included reviews. So for mine I included two good reviews from famous newspapers which followed conventions. The writing is big and bold and the logo's of where you can purchase the album is clearly visible. The release date and promotion for hit singles are also conventional for adverts to have, which is why I have included them in mine.

    2. How effective is the combination of your main product (video) and ancillary texts (digipack and advertisement)?

    Password = Student

I believe the link between the music video and its ancillary products were quite clear and consistent. Here are in which ways they linked.

The first link is the picture of the artist shown on all three products.

The title of the album is shown on the digipack and advertisement.

The colour scheme (grey) is linked through the digipack and advert.

The font is linked between the digipack and advert.

The video is called 'Suddenly I see' as is the album (written on it) and on the advert it promotes 'Suddenly I see.'

The digipack has a photo of Carnaby Street which is shown in the video and is quite iconic and recognisable to the audience.

The record label info links in the digipack and advertisement.

I believe that the ancillary texts are successful and work. I think my target audience would be attracted because it goes along with the artist's personality and her audience's personality. It also attracts a much wider audience, especially the older audience because of the neutral tone of the digipack and advert. The text written on the ancillary products were bold and direct. I believe the text on the advert in particular was very successful as it highlighted everything the audience needed to know and also included good reviews and promotion of the hit singles. These two points would further attract the audience and is effective to create excitement to the audience.

    3. How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages.

    RESEARCH
    - Use of Web (youtube, google, vimeo, myspace, wikipedia)

    CONSTRUCTION
    - Blogger, Photoshop, Quark, Final cut pro, Video Camera, Digital camera.

    PLANNING
    -Moodboard, google

    EVALUATION
    - Powerpoint, Microphone, Blogger, Vimeo, Youtube

I used a HD video camera - JVC 3CCD. This was used to record the shots of our video. The memory cards were inserted inside both the digital camera and the video camera at all times. This was to make sure everything we shot was saved.

                                                                  Moodboard - (Planning)

For our research I used a number of websites including google, wikipedia and youtube. To create the moodboard for planning I went onto www.google.com and used the image feature. The images I chose were then printed and cut out to be stuck on.

Final Cut Pro - The split screen effect - (Construction)

To create the split screen effect which was used effectively in our video, we used the crop tool as shown below to crop two different clips. The two clips were then dragged down below on in line with each other and manually split on the screen by selecting and dragging them.

                                                             Photoshop editing (Construction)

I used photoshop to edit the photo we took from the digital camera.  Here I used the spot healing brush tool to clear out small spots which were visible as it was a medium close up shot. This button (shown next to the arrow) was clicked and you then rub over the spots which you can see. This was used to make the image look more professional.

                                                                      Quark - (Construction)

This is quark which was used to fit our pages onto the digipack. The images were imported through file then import and were placed directly in these boxes.

Blogger - Embedding video + Links, Adding Pictures and video (Construction)

These three icons at the top were used to embed videos and link to my blog and also add picture and video.

Youtube - embed code, searching and links (planning, research, evaluation and planning)

To get the embed code, I clicked the 'Embed' button underneath. I then copied and pasted this into blogger. For research, I typed in music relating to kt tunstall and possible remakes at the top in the space provided. Also the links on the right had side were used as well.

    Storyboard - (Planning)

4.)  What have you learned from your audience feedback?

    WRITTEN FEEDBACK

This is feedback left by one individual in class. I learnt that what we had planned had worked very well with the audience. The feel good vibe which we hoped to gain was shown in this feedback as was the Mise en scene with the guitar. I learnt that natural lighting in the daytime is clearly not enough and that some sort of artificial lighting may be needed.

    SECOND WRITTEN FEEDBACK

This is another feedback left by an individual in class. This taught me that the video looked professional and the pace of the shots were on time with the beat. It told me that it may be best to use the camera handheld more often as this was a big plus point with the feedback.

    RECORDING OF FEEDBACK

Not only did we get a pretty good feedback from the noise made in the cinema, we also managed to record feedback outside the cinema. Both these feedbacks confirmed that what we intended to do in the planning came across well to the audience. The feel good factor to the song was highlighted as was the quality of our shots. We had gained feedback on our rough cut version from the first person and gained more after and improved the shots which was left before.

I believe overall our video could of done with improvements. I believe the costume was slightly lazy and could have been improved to fit in more with the conventions of a pop genre. Also the lighting on some of the side shots could of been better. However I believe overall the video did follow the conventions and had much more positives than negatives.

Prior to having gained feedback, I didn't know whether the video was good or bad. By gaining feedback it allowed me to decide how I really felt on the video. My doubts of the shot angles were never highlighted in the feedback which was a positive and some of the positives, for example, the way in which the shots go in beat with the music, I had never previously acknowledged until hearing and seeing feedback.
